            THE BRENTVILLE CROSS COUNTRY      

       RELAYS – 'under the lights'

I encourage you to give this meet a try!  Last year's race was awesome -- it featured over 60 teams and the runners had a great time!   This relay format really promotes a fun/team oriented atmosphere.  WE BRING IN PORTABLE LIGHTING AND LIGHT OUR ENTIRE CC COURSE!!!!!

 

The race will be run on a Cross Country Course consisting of slight hills and grass and dirt trails.  Each runner will run a 2500 meter loop.  The course is quite spectator friendly.

 

WHAT: 5x2500 meter relay.  Each school enters teams of 5 runners.  Each runner runs a 2500 meter leg and then hands off the baton to their teammate.

            - 'Extras' Men's 2500 Meter Race Section I  7:00

            - 'Extras' Men's 2500 Meter Race Section II  7:10

            - 'Extras' Mens 2500 Meter Race Section III 7:20

            - 'Extras' Women's 2500 Meter Race Section I 7:30

            - 'Extras' Womens 2500 Meter Race Section II 7:40

            -  Mens 'A' Championship Relay Race 7:55

            -  Womens 'A' Championship Relay Race 8:45

            -  Awards Ceremony 9:45-10:00

 

WHY: This exciting relay format is a 'blast' for the kids.  It is a fresh break from the traditional CC format. 

                                   

WHERE: Brentsville H.S. (Located in PrinceWilliamCounty. Just 50 minutes from WashingtonD.C.)

 

COST: $135/school -- unlimited entrants

 

MISCELLANEOUS: Each school may enter a men's and women's A,B, and C team (the 'A' team should be your top 5 runners.....the 'B' team is your runners #6-10 etc...). 

Any additional runners on your team can compete in the open 2500 meter Extras Race.

 

AWARDS: Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top two men's and women's 'A' relay teams.  The top 15 Men and Women in the Extras Race will receive medals.   Also, the top 3 Mens & Womens B & C teams will receive medals.

Click on results and enter 2006, then High School, then cross country.... this should pull up results for the month of September.                                               

 

NEW FOR 2007: We will award an overall mens and womens team champion based on team performance in all 3 relays A,B, & C.  A first place team finish in a relay race receives 5 pts, 2nd place receives 4 pts, 3rd place receives 3 pts., 4th place receives 2 pts, and 5th place receives 1 pt.   The highest possible team score will be 15 points (3 1st place finishes).

 

Also, any team that wins an A,B, or C race receives a free entry into our 2008 Relay Race.  Congratulations to Eleanor Roosevelt, LakeBraddock, Midlothian, and Thomas Jefferson for earning free entries into this year's race.

The earlier I hear from you the better.  Please mail in the enclosed form if you are interested!!!!  The first 60 teams to submit payment  will be guaranteed entry into the race.  The race will be capped at 60 teams.  You may submit payment early.  Once I receive notice that you are interested, I will mail you an entry form on August 7 with detailed meet information.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO COACHES

Our facility can accommodate approximately 60 teams.  We have received a National Sanction and have received considerable interest from out of state teams.  The first 60 teams to submit payment will be accepted. 

 

Simply because you attended the event last year does NOT mean you will be accepted this year.  Already, well over 60 teams have expressed an interest in attending.  Any team that attended the 2006 Relays and submits payment by Aug. 1 will automatically be accepted..

 

The race fee is $135 (checks are made payable to Brentsville) and you may submit it now.  Because of the cost of lighting our course we can only submit a 50% refund if the event is cancelled due to inclement weather (i.e. thunderstorms and lightning).

 

Again, the first 60 teams to submit payment will be accepted.  In addition to submitting payment, please return the enclosed form.  Any team wishing to attend once we reach our 60 team cap will be denied entry.  We will NOT hold spots for any teams.
