Blacksburg Relays - August 25th, 2018
Start the season with a great 2k race instead of a 5K in the heat of August in this exciting and fun format. Each runner will compete on the 2k course on a relay that your kids will be talking about all year.
TIMING

PARKING
Bus parking and school vehicles will be in the bus lot next to the HS at no charge.
Spectator parking will be in the student parking lot - $5.00 per vehicle.
THE COURSE
The Blacksburg XC Course is 100% all grass with rolling hills and is very scenic. The course is spectator friendly and is considered a championship collegiate course. The course is located behind the Blacksburg High School and has plenty of parking and restroom facilities.The course will have obstacles similar to a European cross country course. Nothing hard but something they kids will be excited about.
The course has been the host of the 2014, 2015 Conference 32 Championships and the 2014, 2015 3A West Regional Championships, as well as the Metro XC Championships since 2014. This course will also host the 2018 4A Region D Championships.
THE RELAY
The relay has five people. Each leg runs 2 kilometers for a total relay distance of 10k.
Each runner's splits will be taken. You will have a team time and 2k times for each of your athletes.
Your first relay team is Team A.
Your second relay team is Team B.
You can have as many teams as you need. So your 10th team would be your J team. Any athletes you have that cant be on a relay can run the high school open race (11:00am).
Entry Deadline is Wednesday, August 22nd, 2018 at 11:59pm.
MEET SCHEDULE
8:00am-11:00am: Packet pick-up
8:20am: Girls Middle School 2k non-relay race (6th, 7th, 8th)
8:40am: Boys Middle School 2k non-relay race (6th, 7th, 8th)
9:00am: Girls Relay Championship Start
10:00am: Boys Relay Championship Start
11:00am: High School 2k race for non-relay members
11:30am: Open Community 2k Race (Coaches Free) $10.00 for everyone else!
Awards will follow after each race
AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN TO THE FOLLOWING
The top five relay teams for each gender.
The top ten boys 2k splits and top ten girls 2k splits from the Relay Championships.
The top three boys and girls in the HS Open Race.
The top three boys and girls for each grade in the MS Open Race.
SPECIAL AWARDS
Any relay teams that come within 5 minutes of the US High School, NCAA, American, or World 10k Records will receive special awards as a bonus!

ENTRY FEES
$30 per relay or $200 max fee per school
$10.00 per individual if less than five runners for open races.
Middle school - $70 max fee or $10.00 per runner
Open: $10.00 but free for coaches

Please mail check to: Blacksburg H.S., ATTN: Peter Lyell, AD, 3401 Bruin Lane, Blacksburg, VA 24060. Please make check out to "Blacksburg High School" with "XC Relays" in the memo. You may also bring the check with you to the meet.

You do not need to declare your relay teams when you register, but make sure to declare the individuals running in the meet.When you get to the meet coaches will be provided relay cards for each of their teams - those will need to be turned in by 8:30am for the Girls Race, 9:30am for the Boys Race. It would also be tremendously helpful if relay teams could be emailed to Brandon Bear ahead of time at blacksburgtrack@gmail.com, to save the timers the hassle that morning.
Middle School Registration: Register online at Milestat.com (see high school registration, this method is preferable) or email blacksburgtrack@gmail.com with the grade, gender, school and name of your athletes by the entry deadline.
Open Registration: Register at Packet Pick-up from 8am to 11:00am. Race starts at 11:30am. $10.00
Results: Will be posted on the results board by the finish line. Results will be sent to Milestat.com.
Shirts: Terrific, short sleeve shirts will be available for $15.00
Concessions will be available near the Start/Finish area.
Changing/ shower facilities: Our football half time building that is on sight is available for changing and showers. If you would like the use of this facility you must request it with us by email. E-mail: blacksburgtrack@gmail.com
Athletic Trainer: We will have an athletic trainer on site for limited assistance.
Water/Gatorade: Coolers and cups of both will be at the start and finish.
