FOR
ELIGIBILITY TO THE STATE MEET: Each Coach shall satisfy the following
requirement or the school athletes will be ineligible to participate.
Enter on Milestat at the 1A/2A State Meet entry site. USE FAT TIMES ONLY! Enter
your athletes for the proper division either 1A or 2A.
The
Milestat Entry window closes at noon on Sunday, May 27.Scratch
deadline is Monday, May 28 by noon.
The VHSL State Paper Entry Form will be in your Region packet and coaches will
need to fill that out at the region meet and give it to the region
director.It can be downloaded from the
VHSL web site also. This is a change from previous instructions. It will be
used to verify each region's state entries. All coaches need to leave that form
with the region director before leaving the meet.
The Group 1A/2A State Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be at East
Rockingham High School, Elkton, Virginia on Friday, June 1st and Saturday, June
2nd, 2018.
MILESTAT WINDOW: Thewindowfor entries closes on Sunday, May 27 at
noon. The scratch deadline is Monday, May 28 at noon.
ADMISSIONS: $10.00 for Friday session and $10:00 for Saturday. No charge for
pre-school children accompanied by a paying spectator. Each participant will
need his/her competitor's number for admission. Accepted passes for VHSL State
events include VHSCA, VHSL VIAAA, VATA, VSBA and the Principals State membership
cards. (All passes must be accompanied with valid driver's license)
COACHES MEETING: The coaches meeting will be held in the auxiliary gym at East
Rockingham High School. The gym is located in the back of the school. Entry is
just above the track. Meeting time will
be 4:30 PM. Packet pickup will be at the coaches meeting. Packets will contain
seed sheets, competitor's numbers, coaches passes and any other information
that may be necessary. Bus parking will be in front of the school and parking
monitors will be there for parking instructions.
Coaches passes will be issued in accordance with VHSL Policy by team gender and
found in your packet. Additional coaches or school personnel can be admitted
using one of the Cards shown on the VHSL 2016-2017 Acceptable Pass Form:
1-5 Athletes 1 pass
6-10 Athletes 2 passes
11 or more Athletes 3 passes
Competitor Numbers will be used for athletes to re-enter the stadium.
FACILITY: The East Rockingham track is an 8-lane 400-meter track. One-quarter
pyramid spikes or flats may be used.
RULES: NFHS Track and Field Rule Book for 2018 as well as the VHSL rules as
stated in the VHSL handbook will be observed. Uniform Rule and Electronic
Devices: This is a reminder to all track and field coaches that the NFHS rules
regarding participant uniforms(Rule 4-3 of the NFHS Track and Field Rules Book)
will be enforced at all State Championships. All uniforms must be school issued
or school approved. A single manufacturers logo/trademark/reference, no more
than 2 square inches with no dimension more than 2 inches, is permitted on the
uniform top, uniform bottom(including waistband), or one-piece uniform.Please be advisedthat compression tops, shorts or tights
must conform to this rule unless the compression top, shorts, or tights are
worn as foundational garments. Relay athletes must also conform to rulebook
policy. Coaches are strongly encouraged to ensure that your athletes are properly
uniformed, as it is the coaches responsibility to ensure that all of your
athletes are in compliance.
Coaches are also reminded that electronic devices are prohibited inside the
competition area and all other restricted areas as designated by the Games
Committee. Please remind your athletes of this restriction.
FINISH LYNX TIMING SYSTEM will be the official timing for all running events.
Timing will be provided by Steve Geiman and Raintree Timing/Track Management
Systems.
HOUSING:Hotels andmotels in Harrisonburg will be used by
both the 3A/4A schools and the now the 1A/2A schools. Staunton has available
housing as well and is only about 35 minutes away.
EQUIPMENT: Each team must furnish its own towels, shots, discus, batons and
poles. Starting blocks will be supplied East Rockingham High School. NO OTHER
BLOCKS MAY BE USED.
Vaulting poles will be inspected and vaulters will be weighed at the pole vault
area. Nothing may be altered on the pole. Original Manufacturer markings must
be visible. Head coaches will provide a written certification to the meet
director that each competitor uses proper weighted poles.
Shot and Discus inspection will be take place at the shot area. Officials will
certify throwing implements to the exact standard of the rule. Rubber discs
with edge dings, rough or narrow edges will not be allowed. Implements not in
compliance will be impounded during the event and coaches may pick them up at
the conclusion of the competition.
Uniforms for each contestant must be in compliance with the 2018 NFHS rule
book. Competitor's numbers will be provided by VHSL and will be used for
admittance at thegateif athletes leave. They are to be used each day
so coaches need to make sure they return on Saturday with their competitor
number that will be issued on Friday.
AWARDS: Team trophies (1st and 2nd) will be presented at the conclusion of the
Meet. Individual medals (1st through 8th) may be picked up in the lower hallway
of the stadium. Note that 1st through 8th place will be scored
(10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1)
PARTICIPATION LIMITATIONS; A contestant may compete in any number of field
events. A contestant shall be limited to participation in only three running
events for the two-day meet. Exception: An athlete participating in the 3200M
run may participate in ONE other event on that day. Note: An Athlete
participating in the 3200 M relay on Friday can run ANY two events on Saturday.
An athlete NOT participating in the 3200M relay on Friday can run in three
events on Saturday unless one of them is the 3200 M run.
If a contestant is entered in a field event, which conflicts in the time
schedule with a track event in which he is entered, he shall make advance
arrangements with the official in charge of the field event to postpone his
trials until after the track event has been run. No track or field event will
be held up to accommodate a contestant. Vertical events will be discussed at
the coaches meeting.
NOTE: Competitors shall be disqualified for an event if his/her coach, manager,
attendant or anyone associated with his/her team is on the infield, the track,
the enclosure inside, or those areas designated only for officials and
contestants in current events. No coaches or spectators are allowed on the
infield at any time. If you have a question regarding a result or place, go to
the bullpen and the proper official will be notified. It there is a
disqualification during the meet, coaches will be called to the field for
clarification.
ELIGIBLE TO STATE MEET: Entries may be only those contestants who place 1st,
2nd, 3rd, or 4th in a Regional Meet or those contestants who were properly
reported to the Conference or Regional Meet Director as having met the state
qualifying standards at the Conference or Regional Championship Meet (trials or
finals) or who met the state qualifying standard in a meet of 5 or more teams(FAT
timed) or 10 teams hand-timed..
MILESTAT is being used for the verification source for entries using the state
standards.
At the south end of the stadium area, athletes will have a staging and team
area set aside. The area will be flagged off. All coolers and any team food can
be taken to that area. All canopies and shelters will need to be set in that
area and teams and coaches only should be there. Spectators and parents need to
be directed to the bleacher areas. No canopies in the bleachers. Please tell
your parents. And teams should not be setting up in the bleachers. Please use
the staging and team area behind the visitor bleachers.
There will be an area for spectators and coaches outside of the fence at the
shot to see the shot, pole vault and discus. All other events are easily viewed
from outside of the track fence and bleacher areas. No coaches, parents, or
spectators will be allowed on the stadium field or track complex. There will be
no coaches boxes in the competition area. All events are in areas where coaches
can have access near the fences.
