Athlete Spotlight: Raleigh Hazel (Fredericksburg Academy) Nov 12, 2008

Fredericksburg Academy senior Raleigh Hazel bidded his time in becoming the VISAA Division II state champion with Austin Ellis of Covenant holding a reign of dominance as a four-time winner. He exhibited the same patience in his race last Friday afternoon at Woodberry Forest as he moved in the lead for good not until in the final half mile of the race for a state individual title to lead his team to a state runner-up team showing as well. MileStat.com's Brandon Miles intervied Hazel after his state championship win at the VISAA State Cross Country Meet.

Two reasons for a team disqualification: 1)Two bandit runners were stopped during the race and disqualified for not wearing a uniform and 2) subsequently they belonged to PCS who ran more than 12 runners on the team. These rules were fully explained on the entry form mailed to each coach, e-mailed to each AD, listed on the VISAA website, and listed on Milestat. At the awards ceremony today, we purposely did not publish individual results or team results for the Division 2 Boys' Race. However, we did hand out individual awards to the top 20, and we awarded plaques to the qualified top three teams excluding PCS without referring to their disqualification.
