13th Bengal Clash at the River

Site: Smith River Sports Complex

Course opens 4:00 pm

Safety Precautions for Raceday

  • Move start time back to 5:30 pm (combine races to avoid darkness)

             1. Middle School Girls (3K) and Elementary 5:30 pm (Elem 1K)

              2. Middle School Boys (3K)      6:00 pm (Awards 6:45 pm)

              3. Varsity Girls and JV Girls combined (5K)  6:30 pm

              4. Varsity Boys and JV Boys combined (5K) 7:00 pm   (Awards 7:45 pm or ASAP)

              5. If it is safe for a 5K then adjust Boys Varsity/JV to 7:10 pm

  • We can still separate Varsity and JV for results and awards

  • Drop high schools races to a 2 Mile if needed (If safe we can run it as a 5K) Course will be ready

  • Two/Three extra tents at the top

  • Extra water station near bathrooms at bottom loop (Kiddie pool with with cloths for neck)

  • Sprinkler and or fire department with a hose (Talking to county to see options)

  • Rescue Squads EMS (1 currently on site) (Working on a 2nd one for bottom)

  • Trainers/Nurses (2 Trainers and 2 Nurses on site at the complex)

  • Double Ice and Water at the Finish Line  (Complex will help with that)

  • Coach Arnold is asking would JROTC help out this day where needed)

  • P&HCC XC runners will be on site to help where needed (Road Guards, Finish Line, Etc.

  • Finish Line (Blue Shop towels in water for back of necks of runners)

  • Kona Ice and Bahama Sno Shack on site

  • Tent City (There is shade near the tree line of soccer field)

Hopefully these changes will make it safe to complete all the races at the advertised distances. Coaches please provide feedback and any other suggestions we should consider for race day. I know we all want to get the races in on Thursday with Labor Day weekend coming.

13th Annual Bengal Clash at the River will also be the preview meet for the 2026 Piedmont District XC Championships (10-22-26)

THIS WILL ALSO COUNT AS BASSETT'S HOME MEET FOR 2026. PD TEAMS CAN RUN AT NO CHARGE.

HS/J.V./MS/Elem 9/03/26

8th Grade runners are able to compete in J.V. race or middle school race.

Varsity Races: Top 10 runners in varsity races; all others in JV races



Meet Fees - $10.00 per individual, $50.00 per gender $90.00 if you are bringing a boys and girls team. If your team has a middle school team that the high school runs, make the fee a flat $125.00.

Middle School - $10 per runner $35 per gender or $60.00 per school

Elementary- $10 per runner $35 per gender or $60.00 per school

Payments - Mail checks to Bassett High School, 85 Riverside Drive, Bassett, Va 24055, make checks payable to Bassett High School; on memo line put cross country

Race day payments will be accepted.

Spectators- $5.00 per car (Ticket takers will be at the front entrance to complex.) Tell parents to have cash ready so we can keep the lines moving

Tee-shirts-- Cre8tee LLC will be be onsite printing custom tee-shirts for out event

You and your team are invited to the 13th annual Bengal Clash at the River XC Invitational this fall. The event will be held on an all grass course with some trails at the Smith River Sports Complex.



We will be offering concessions, Kona Ice, Bahama Sno Shack,  Sugar Shack Sweets and Treats, and Tammy's Grill will be on site to serve our runners and spectators.

New this year- Pokemon Card Vendor will be on site selling and trading throughout the event 

The Brick Running Store will be setup also on site with an assortment of gear and shoes.

Top 15 in the each Varsity High School race will receive medals and the top three teams will receive trophies. Top 10 individuals for JV and middle school races with top 2 receiving team trophies

Top 5 individuals for elementary boys/girls and top team will receive trophy
