Tyrese Cooper owns multiple freshman national records, but now he can add high school national record holder to his resume. The sophomore opened up his 2017 indoor campaign with a 33.03s 300m dash at the VA Showcase, .02 faster than the previous record held by LSU's Michael Cherry.
MGX coach Darius Lawshea told us earlier this week the pair's goals aren't to just rewrite the sophomore class records, but to go after senior and world records as well.
"He really got out fast and finished strong. I think he could have ran 32 if he hadn't screamed coming off the curve like the Hulk," Lawshea told us after the race.
Well, "Smoke" this isn't a bad way to start the year. Earlier in the day he ran a US#4 time of 6.38 to win his heat of the prelims and he still hasn't done. Lawshea told me Friday morning that he will also contest the field at 500m.
