Weekend Preview: National Leaders & State Record Holders Opening Up

GHS Pre-Holiday Invitational Preview

Meet Page - Performance List - All-Time Top 25 Facility Times: Boys - Girls

For some this meet will be an encore for their already great performances run at Real Deal last week and for others it is going to be a big season opener. This meet is always one to watch for its size and high level of talent at the meet too.

The nice part about this meet though is the events that it hosts as well.

#1 Event to watch: Girls' Shuttle Hurdle Relay

Why: Even if Western Branch doesn't pack the house in this it is still going to be fast. It looks like this year they are back to their old selves with enough girls to fill three sections at 6A states in the 55mH.

#2 Event to watch: Girls' 55mH

Why: Just like last week, Shadajah Ballard is entered in this event and it could be another fast one from the sophomore who went VA #5 all-time 7.79 last weekend in her season opener.

#3 Event to watch: Boys' Pole Vault

Why: It seems that every elite guy in the state really wants to get familiar with this pole vault set up. This is the second week in a row that all the elite pole vaulters in action are making the trip down to Boo Williams Sportplex to really get acclimated to the facility which means we are in store for some great performances.

#4 Event to watch: Girls' Long Jump/Triple Jump

Why: Destiny Ward, aka Cheetah Mode, is back in action and is one of the best track athletes in the entire nation. This will likely be a huge opening weekend for the Oscar Smith senior and could produce some state and national leading marks.

#5 Event to watch: Girls' 300m Dash

Why: Britton Wilson upset a whole lot of the state last year by taking home this crown as a freshman. She will want to throw down a sub 40 performance to make it a point that she is back and even stronger but she will have lots of competition this Saturday.
