Indoor Track & Field Award Winners Announced!

Speciality Athletes of The Year

Sprinter of The Year

Britton Wilson (Mills Godwin)

The sprinter of the year is Britton Wilson, she edged out Hannah Waller for this award with her wider range and bigger wins in the season. Britton faced tough competition multiple times before states and ran some of the fastest times ever in state history in both the 300 and 500 meter dashes.

Distance Runner of The Year

Grant Northcutt (Cosby)

Grant is likely the only athlete in Virginia that can say they are undefeated. He ran multiple miles, two miles, 3200s, 1600s, and even a 1K this season. He won every single race and ranks highly in all three and to cap the season off he ran away with the state 3200m title.

Thrower of The Year

Alexis Clark (James Monroe)

Alexis moved up to third all-time in the state with her 46-8 best put this indoor season and just won yet another throwing title. She will go down as one of the most consistently great throwers our state has ever seen.

Relay of The Year

Loudoun Valley Boys 4xMile

You can't pick against a national record setting relay team. They ran 17:01 and it was never in doubt after the first leg. This relay was comprised of Sam Affolder, Connor Wells, Jacob Hunter, and Colton Bogucki

Vaulter of The Year

William Chapman (Atlee)

Will was able to win the 5A State title in epic fashion with his 16-5 clearance. That moves him to VA #2 all-time in the event. He also broke the state meet record with that vault.

Jumper of The Year

Trey Causey (John Handley)

Trey continually improved all season and truly saved the best for last. On his second attempt at nationals he was able to clear 7-00.25 to finally break the seven foot barrier and finish as the national runner-up in high jump.

Hurdler of The Year

Kurt Powdar (Oscar Smith)

Kurt was hiding something all year because at nationals he was on another level. In the semi-finals there he blasted out a 7.08 finish in the race to now rank him second all-time in Virginia behind Grant Holloway only.

Most Improved Athlete of The Year

Hannah Waller (South Lakes)

Definitely the most improved athlete of the year is Hannah Waller. She went from being a decent frosh to superstar status as a sophomore. This year included winning both the 55 and 300 meter dashes at the 6A State Championships. Both of her wins there rank as some of the fastest times ever in Virginia.
