Frierson, Lambert earn CAA T&F Athletes of the Week

RICHMOND, VA – Virginia Commonwealth sophomores James Frierson (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) and Davion Lambert (Richmond, Va./Varina), left, were honored as the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of March 22.

Frierson, who holds the school record in the indoor 200m, was named Track Athlete of the Week after earning first place in both the 100m and the 200m at last weekend's Ram Invitational hosted by VCU. His times of 10.60 in the 100m and 21.96 in the 200m were the fastest in the CAA this year.

Lambert's performance at the Ram Invite earned him the Athlete of the Week for field events. His first-place leap of 24-4.5 in the long jump was almost a foot further than the next competitor and qualified him for the NCAA Eastern Regional. The VCU indoor triple jump record holder also scored a second-place finish in that event with a mark of 48-2.75, best amongst NCAA athletes at the Ram Invite.

Frierson, Lambert and the rest of the VCU men's track and field squad will be competing this weekend at the Fred Hardy Invitational on the campus of the University of Richmond.
