The 2013 outdoor track & field season was a historic season for Virginia high school freshmen boys with many freshmen state record performances or all-time best times and marks for the grade level which have not been seen in many years by 9th grade boys in the state. Grassfield's Grant Holloway led this talented group from the class of 2016 with personal bests of 6'11" in the high jump, 14.42 in the 110 meter hurdles, 38.52 in the 300 meter hurdles, 48.58 in the 400 meter dash, and 22'3.25" in the long jump. Holloway would appear to be a once in a generation athlete for the sport to enjoy in the state, but at T.C. Williams High School, there are two more remarkable freshmen in the Lyles brothers (not twins but less than a year age difference apart), Noah and Josephus.
