Fork Union Invitational Coverage

Miles Clikeman (pictured above by Arnel Gonce) of Veritas School won his first major invitational with a 15:32 clocking on the Hardy National 3 mile course at the Fork Union Invitational on Saturday. The Western Albemarle boys nearly put their entire top 7 among the top 25 places to win the team title with ease averaging 16:10 and creating a 34 point buffer, while the Clover Hill boys surprised in grabbing second place over some higher ranked squads.

A sixth runner tiebreaker was the deciding factor for the girls' team title between Mills Godwin and Western Albemarle tied at 77 points with race runner-up Katharine Benfer (17:58) leading the 5A Godwin girls over the 3A Western Albemarle girls. Benfer was one of two girls to dip under 18 minutes with Trinity Episcopal junior Molly Breidenbaugh (pictured above by Arnel Gonce) pulling away for a 30 second margin of victory at 17:28.
