Metro Invitational Preview

ROANOKE, VA -- The 30th annual Metro Invitational will be held Saturday at Roanoke College's Elizabeth Campus 5K course. With the absence of Christiansburg, which swept the 2002-team titles, the Metro appears to be more competitive than in previous years. For the boys, Cave Spring and Salem look to be the teams favored to take the team titles. Pulaski County, Franklin County, Hidden Valley and Roanoke Catholic are hoping to get in the mix for the individual awards. The boys' race may be a tough battle with several contenders emerging. Adam Dickerson a senior from Franklin County, Pulaski County juniors Lance McDaniel and Will Frye, Hidden Valley senior Scott Adams, Cave Spring junior Lee Bradshaw, Salem senior Adam Campbell, and Roanoke Catholic senior Will Klos appear to be the top runners entered.

The girls' side looks just as competitive. Cave Spring, Blacksburg, Roanoke Catholic, and Salem should contend for the title. With an injured Jennifer Beury of Hidden Valley being on the sidelines, and the defending Metro champion Anna Chase of Martinsville entry status in question, the title may go to one of several runners. Look for Brittany Killough of Franklin County, Catherine White of Northside, freshman Rachel Chitwood of Pulaski County, senior Katie Lamb of Roanoke Catholic, and Allie Lewis of Hidden Valley to be in the hunt.
