Deep Creek rising sophomore Dejor Simmons claimed the second AAU National Junior Olympics Games title among Virginian preps on the final day of competition in the intermediate boys' division of the 100 meter dash. Simmons, seeded second in the event coming in from the semifinals, claimed an AAU national title with a 10.79 clocking in the prelims, which is his second fastest time ever in the event (10.72 personal best). The Eastern Region 100 meter champ nearly earned a second victory in Knoxville, Tennesee in the 200 meter dash, but had to settle for a runner-up finish with a 21.72 clocking behind Ronnie Wingo from St. Louis, Missouri (21.57).
Marlena Wesh of Landstown was another AAU national runner-up from Virginia as after finishing seventh in the 100 meter dash finals for the intermediate girls earlier on Saturday, came back to put up a time of 24.39 to take in a second place performance in the finals of the 200 meter dash.
