James River senior Kristen Wolfe (pictured left by John Herzog) leads one of deepest and most talented pool of Central Region individuals and teams as the defending regional champion. Only the likes of Footlocker Nationals runner-up Aurora Scott, 15-time AA state champion Catherine White, and eventual 10:31 2 miler Sarrah Hadiji joined Wolfe under 18 minutes for 5K last fall as Wolfe has the fastest returning time in AAA at 17:58. 12 of the top 20 returning 5K times among AAA girls happen to be from the Central Region. Meanwhile, the Midlothian girls will be heavily favored to win their third consecutive state title, while Douglas Freeman and Maggie Walker return talented squads that can make podium runs and give the Central Region a possible rare accomplishment in a sweep of the top three positions. However, the Northern Region possesses several solid teams including last year's state runner-up Lake Braddock.
