With not only state titles but also a national runner-up placing in the 2 Mile, Kate Murphy is the hands down pick for being named distance runner of the year. She finished the season with an undefeated record in the 1600 and 3200 and a VA # 3 all-time 3200 converted 10:20 2 Mile time. Though there were quite a few other great distance runners this year, Kate is the only one to dominate the state scene, remain undefeated and to finish the year with a national runner-up finish while just being a sophomore.
