Independent Schools State Meet Recap

WOODBERRY FOREST, VA -- Much like how eventual Foot Locker All-American Cara Kiernan broke out onto the scene at last year's Independent School State Meet, Cape Henry Collegiate senior Suzanne Ginnow took the field by surprise by winning the girls' individual title in a time of 20:02.36 over the likes of proven runners, Elizabeth Harrison, Ginna Ellis, and Katie Doswell. Meanwhile, Episcopal's Ryan Woodlee, a transfer from Gonzaga (D.C. prep school), broke 17 on the challenging Woodberry Forest 5K course to win in a time of 16:56.62. Ginna Ellis (3rd, 20:19.77) and Anica Bilisoly (5th, 20:43.82) helped lead the Norfolk Academy girls (45 pts) to the team title over defending state champion St. Catherine's (55 pts). The St. Christopher's boys successfully defended their title in dominating fashion with their 39 team point total. Woodberry Forest was a distant second with 85 points.
