Tori Ray (Hampton)
Queen of the Sprints (100-200-400) @5A State
Ruling the girls' side of the sprints and completing the more impressive triple crown on Saturday was Tori Ray. She ran 11.95, 24.31, and 55.27 to bring home these titles. The impressive thing was that those 200 and 400 times were both pr's showing just how she stepped up big to win those races. Her points helped lead Hampton to a runner-up finish with just two individuals scoring.
Lauryn Ghee (Grassfield)
100-200 Champion @6A State
Almost completing the triple was Lauryn Ghee who once again put on a show in the sprints. She blazed a 11.62 new VA #1 in the 100m dash, a 24.23 in the 200 and impressive 54.62 to finish second in the 400m dash. These times are all-time ranking and more impressive given that she is only a sophomore.
Destiny Ward (Oscar Smith)
400m State Champion, New VA #1 53.97
Besting her and ruining the triple crown was another super sophomore, Destiny Ward who won the 400m dash in a pr and VA #1 time of 53.97. Destiny finished an impressive second in the 200 in 24.28 to go along with her 6th place finish in the long jump and 4th place finish in the triple jump as well at 6A States. If that wasn't enough, Destiny also ran a monster anchor leg on the 4x400 to help her team place second out of the slow heat. Many people forget about her but she is arguably one of the best young runners in the nation!
