#8: Grant Holloway Leaps into the record books!
Ok, so we knew going into outdoor states that Grant Holloway was clutch. I mean, it is kind of obvious, but we did not know that he was Bob Beamon clutch! This year at the VHSL 6A State meet Grant Holloway and Landstown's Quincy Watts put together one of the best field event competitions ever!
Before we delve into the long jump competition let's mention how these two actually put up one of the best state meets in the past ten years by themselves. Grant almost single-handedly won Grassfield the team title and Quincy put together what could have been a winning performance had it not been for Grant. Both hurdled their way onto the all-time lists and re-wrote the record books in the field events.
In the long jump specifically it was something to behold. Grant and Quincy went back and forth all through prelims but when the finals started things got serious in a hurry. It started with Quincy leaping to a new state meet record and the crowd going wild. Grant answered quickly and broke that record. This repeated over four times until the final jump where Grant pr'd by two feet to jump 25-8.75 to move into #2 all-time in the state and #1 in the nation!
To jump that far was one thing but to do it on your final attempt against some of the best competition ever is just next level. Because of that and thanks to the tough competition that also broke records this moment if our #8 moment of the year!
