Watch our Workout Wednesday video with Patriot (VA) junior Rachel McArthur, a returning Nike Cross Nationals All-American and adidas Dream mile qualifier. McArthur this Wednesday ran a 4xmile repeat workout on the track with 2 1/2 minutes rest!
The Workout:
1600m Repeat #1 - 5:50
1600m Repeat #2 - 5:47
1600m Repeat #3 - 5:40
1600m Repeat #4 - 5:30
With her race this weekend cancelled due to weather in the Octoberfest Invite, which would have been her first time racing at Great Meadow since winning the Virginia 6A state title last November, McArthur now turns her attention to preparing for the Manhattan Invitational next weekend at historic Van Cortlandt Park's 2.5 mile course.
It is not the first race of the season of the current Saucony Flo50 #11 ranked runner in the country. Last Saturday at the RVA Relays, McArthur put on her night vision goggles to scorch a 7:46 anchor split for her Patriot squad's 5x2500m relay. That's a 15:32 5K if she duplicated the pace for another 2.5K!
With her swift split last Saturday night and workout on Wednesday averaging 5:41 for 4 mile repeats on 2 1/2 minutes rest, certainly appears McArthur who has focused more on training rather than racing for the first half of the cross country season is sharp and ready to roll at Manhattan next weekend in one of her first major races of the fall.
