10:30 - VHSL Group 1A Girls

Three times seems to be the charm for this one. Julia Wood and Mary Elliott went 1-2 for the third time in a row. This may be tough to swallow for Elliott for a third time but thankfully she is only a junior and just happened to have won a third team title in a row as well. That is obviously not the worst consolation prize.
11:15 - VHSL Group 1A Boys

This race was quite the show with Auburn making up a monster 22 point deficit over the final 2.1 miles to uproot Altavista's hopes of winning the team title. This was Auburn's first team title in school history and was even sweeter considering senior Trevor Dominy was the state champion as well.
11:45 - VHSL Group 3A Girls

Blacksburg times five. That was the story here as Blacksburg's girls ran their way into the record books by winning a historic fifth state title in a row. That goes on top of them winning their third individual title in a row when Sophia Link, only a freshman, crossed the line first. Blacksburg also tied their own state record of scoring 23 points in the state meet. The scariest thing here though is that six of their top seven are returning.
12:30 - VHSL Group 3A Boys

Though all the other races want to claim they were the closest or the best, the 3A boys race might just have to be the champion there. Gannon Willcutts blew his competition away very early but the team race was anything but a runaway. At the opening mile Western Albemarle has a 65 point cushion on Blacksburg, at the second mile Brentsville had taken the lead by six points and at the finish it came down to just four points with Western Albemarle barely edging out Blacksburg.
1:00 - VHSL Group 2A Girls

This Green Dragon squad from Maggie Walker came with a mission and succeeded beyond comparison. They went 1-2 in the individual race with Emma Call and Khloe Pointer taking the honors and then scored a whopping 30 points en route to another team title.

In the final race of the state meet Maggie Walker made history. They handedly won the team title but the main story for them was Ryan Buscaglia finally breaking through and earning them their first ever individual state champion. Believe it or not, despite their historical record, he was their first state XC champion. It was only fitting as well to have his teammate Evan Fisher as the runner-up in this race.
