With the impressive times that come consistently from the larger AAA and AA division in Virginia State track, the A group is often pushed to the back of people’s minds. Clarke County High senior, Ben Veilleux, however has proven this year that the smaller division A is still capable of producing runners that can compete on the highest level, and in a lot of cases, come out on top.
This season Veilleux has been on a rampage, tearing up any course that stands in his way. After a Maymont Invitational race, where he clocked a 16:11, while placing 7th, Veilleux followed it up with two invitational wins. His first win was a true eye opener, as he won the seeded race at Glory Days Invitational, winning the stacked race by an incredibly large margin. Twenty-seven seconds ahead of runner-up Leoule Degfae of Thomas Edison (15:50), Veilleux ran a personal best of 15:23.
