Jefferson Forest girls continue dynasty

THE PLAINS, VA -- The Jefferson Forest girls have done it once again, winning yet another state title. After pulling off the rare trifecta last year in winning in the Group AA cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track state titles, the Jefferson Forest girls look to be headed for another trifecta winning the Group AA State Cross Country Meet at the Great Meadows 5K course on a cool and sunny day. Ranked #7 in the entire nation, the Jefferson Forest girls won the race in dominating fashiong as they blew out what actually was one of the most competive field of teams in recent history in Group AA with quality squads.

Leading the way as always for Lady Cavaliers was the Saunders twins, Shannon and Kristin. The two sisters separated themselves from the rest of the runners early on in the race and by the two mile mark had already built a substantial lead on the rest of the field. By that point, there was no one to push them but themselves. Shannon successfully defended her state title as she finished with a time of 18:37. Kristin didn't finish too far behind in second with a time of 18:48.90. The two Jefferson Forest seniors will be looking to earn further honors and accolades in post-state meets in the upcoming MileStat.com Invitational and Foot Locker South Meet. At the MileStat.com Invitational, held on the Fork Union Military 3 mile course, the course record will be in serious jeopardy with the Saunders twins coming to race. The three mile course is 18:10, which is held by North Stafford's Kristyn Shiring.

The on-slaught didn't stop there from Jefferson Forest as two other team members took all-state honors as Jennifer Templeton (11th, 19:35.50) and Carly Sitterly (15th, 19:48.10) put together exceptional races. Closing out the best team of five in the state was Cate Jackson, finishing 24th in a time of 20:19.30. Their team score of 35 points put them well ahead of runner-up Turner Ashby with 75 points.

One would think that all of this success would make them become complacent. However, it seems to be working the exact opposite as they are only getting more and more hungrier for state titles.
