VHSL 3A/4A State Track Meet Preview

3A Individual Stars to Watch

The 3A competition is going to also be jam packed with stars. Here though one of the most interesting things to watch will be who scores the most points. There is a long list here of athletes ready to not only win one but multiple titles this weekend. Here are the big names to watch.

Jahnelle Saunders (Phoebus)

  • Jahnelle is ready to rumble in the high jump, long jump, 100H, and elsewhere. She is going to need to score some major points for Phoebus if they want that title.

Jordin Poindexter (Armstrong)

  • Jordin could be one of the few athletes to ever pull off the sprint triple crown. 100-200-400 is a tough triple but if anyone could do it, it would be him.

Ryah Hinds (York)

  • Speaking of triple crown bids... Ryah will be doing that in the girls 1-2-4 as well. This could be a historic weekend.

Alexis Clark (James Monroe)

  • She has many state titles so this weekend is about records. She should easily win both throws so after she gets that safe throw in she is going for broke!

Jabari Blake (Heritage)

  • Another thrower to watch this weekend is Jabari. Records could be within his reach.

Isaac Alderfer (Broadway)

  • Injuries and health have kept us from seeing a huge 800 time from him but he is definitely ready to change that this weekend. He is doubling in the 1600 and 800.

Ethan Mills (Christiansburg)

  • Don't count out the favorite! Ethan enters as the favorite in the 800 and will double in the 1600 after the 4x8 Friday. He could win three state titles this weekend.

Karl Thiessen (Abingdon)

  • We missed him, 3A probably didn't because when you bring the defending champion back who also won XC you bring back a tough competitor and great runner. He will need to put it into full gear this weekend though because during his absence the 3A distance squad rose their game a lot. He will be in the 1600 and 3200.

Joe Hawkes (Western Albemarle)

  • The final distance guy to watch is Joe. He is slowly (but not slowly) building a name for himself in track just like XC. He is the top seed entered in the 3200 and also 1600. Double win in one day?

Tamiyah Meggison (Heritage)

  • Owning a triple jump best of 38-1 means you're legit. 40' is in her wheelhouse.

Walker Hinkle (Broadway)

  • Another athlete who could set a record this weekend and even break seven feet in the triple jump is Walker. He is seeded at 6-10 and it is other worldly to think he is just that close to the seven foot barrier.
