This weekend will be absolutely huge for Team VA at the Great American XC Festival. With great weather in the forecast and a very fast course we are expecting the entire state leaderboard to be uprooted this weekend. On top of that it seems like we will get to see fully loaded squads from nearly all of our top rated teams in the state.
Up first will be the boys taking to the course. Leading the way in this race will most certainly be the Vikings of Loudoun Valley. We have yet to see their entire team in action so this should be quite the showcase of talent. They will most likely be led by Sam Affolder and Jacob Hunter who will both be looking for a sub 15 minute performance this weekend.
Aside from Valley we expect the boys from Oakton to perform very well also. They have been one of the top ranked teams in VA all season and this will be a perfect chance for them to see how great they really are.
Individually aside from the Valley duo we have Theo Woods, Josh Quigg, Oliver Wilson Cook, and Rylan Pettit all competing in this race. Both Woods and Cook should be close to the 15 flat mark. Watch this clock on this one as it will be very fast.
Team VA could place 10 guys inside the top 25 which would definitely be one of the best showings for our state in quite some time.
Following the guys' race will be the girls just 20 minutes later. Individually entered in this one is Rachel Northcutt, Lindsey Hester, Rachel Crytser, Jette Davidson and Mary Caroline Heinen. All five girls have the chance to break 18 this weekend and if they pace accordingly they very well could.
The race itself will most likely be won by Kelsey Chmiel of Saratoga Springs (NY). Behind her though should be quite a few talented girls in the low to mid 17's.
Team wise we will have six teams competing in the ROC and the biggest one to watch is definitely Blacksburg. They are the defending NXR champions and back to prove a point this season. They will also be looking for a statement win over Loudoun Valley who cannot be counted out either. This one is going to be fun to watch with Saratoga from NY as the heavy favorites.
