Storyline To Watch #7: Albert Velikonja
Outdoor state 1600m state champion Albert Velikonja is back in action starting this weekend at the Monroe Parker Invite. He returns to the XC course as a senior in school but only in his second XC season. He also returns as the defending Region 6D champion with his 15:40 best at Burke Lake Park from last year.
This year though he is a totally different runner. Last year he started his year off running minutes slower for the 5K and 4:31 for the 1600. By the end of his junior campaign he was running three times 4:21 or faster in the 1600.
Simply put, the 2018 Albert and the 2019 Albert are totally different runners. You have to consider him as one of the top guys to watch this season and that is why he is one of the biggest storylines heading into the weekend.
