St. Stephen's & St. Agnes junior sprinter Malcolm Johnson Jr. was in fine form to start his 2020-2021 season of indoor track on Saturday at the DCIAA Invitational held in Prince George's County of Maryland.
Johnson Jr. clocked not just one, but two national leading times to kick start his indoor season with a 6.44 clocking to take first place in the finals of the 55 meter dash and double back later to eat up the stagger from his lane one position to top the field in the fast section of the 200 meter dash with a 22.19 performance.
Both times currently rank #1 in the entire country for last year's VISAA state champ indoors in the 55 meter dash and outdoors in the 100 meter dash. The 200 time was an indoor best as Johnson Jr. has run 21.37 outdoors, while the 55 meter dash time was not far off his all-time best of 6.40.
Malcolm Johnson Jr. certainly projects to be one of Virginia's top performers in the sprints this winter as he brings back the 4th fastest 55 meter time and 3rd fastest 200 meter time among all the state's returnees. It will be interesting to see how he matches up against some of the top public school sprinters in major invitationals including the VA Showcase, which he finished 3rd in last year's meet.
