The Big Three Awards

Male Athlete of The Year - Jayson Ward (L.C. Bird)

Jayson was yet again a double state champion winning both the 300 and 500m dashes at the Class 5 state championship. He ends his indoor high school career as VA #2 all-time in the 500m dash and VA #8 all-time in the 300m dash.

Coach of The Year - Val Osipenko (Xtreme Heights)

Val, the head coach at Xtreme Heights, was without a doubt the best coach in the state of Virginia this indoor season. His athletes not only dominated but also pushed the limits on the all-time list. From VISAA to Class 6, he had stars competing everywhere and each week they got better.

Our judge on a coach is not necessarily a star athlete performing well but what all the athletes do and when they perform the best. His athletes peaked at the right time and whether they were 3rd or 1st on their high school team, they improved throughout the season.

Athlete of The Year  - Madison McConico (Thomas Dale)

You can make the argument for quite a few athletes for this title but it is a fact that only one, Madison McConico, is the greatest of all-time. Madison gets that honor by winning adidas Nationals in the Triple Jump with her state record 43-6.5 mark. That distance ranks US #3 all-time and broke the previous state record by more than a foot. It was such a great performance that it would have nearly placed top 10 at NCAA Division 1 this season.
