The CNU Winter Frolic this past weekend in Newport News saw quite a few of the state's top athletes open up their indoor season against solid competition on a quality 200 meter track. As a result, many early state leading performances (Boys - Girls) were produced as well as some times and marks to place on the national leaderboard (Boys - Girls).
Notable performances included a near 56 foot toss by Sulaiman Fareed of Highland Springs in the shot put, a swift 7.04 clocking by defending AAA state champion Keilah Tyson in the 55 meter dash, an automatic state qualifier 4x800 time of 9:37 by the West Potomac girls, an impressive 1:42 posted on a flat track by the Western Branch girls 4x200, and Dinwiddie's Quintaze Jackson reaching out to a nation's best 46'11.25" triple jump.
More to come from CNU and indoor meets this past week and weekend as we catch up on meet coverage coming back from Foot Locker Nationals and San Diego.

Bay Rivers Regular Season Meet #1
Grafton senior David Gunnerson, one of the state's top returning 1000 meter runners (2:30 PR), posted a solid 500 time of 1:09.14 after being challenged by Tabb's Kevin Carr (1:09.73). Gunnerson is working his way back into top shape after missing a large portion of the cross country season due to a stress fracture.
Tabb had several other athletes turn in noteworthy performances at the Boo Williams Sportsplex including female sprinters Julia Aymonin in the 300 meter dash (42.43) and Kiara Porter in the 55 meter dash (7.57). Porter has some impressive range as she was the Group AA state runner-up last spring at 400 meters. Aymonin just missed All-State honors one year ago in the 300 meter dash with an 9th place finish at the Group AA State Indoor Meet.
