The Class 5 boys state team title was closer than close. Both Albemarle and Clover Hill tied with 62 points but with the tie-breaker, Albemarle took home the title thanks to their sixth runner, Hayes Costello.
This tie, joins only one other occasion there has been a tie for the boys team title. That other tie was between Central (Woodstock) and Brentsville who both scored 62 points back in 1997.
Albemarle got back onto the podium for the first time since 2019 when they won the meet. They also won the title in 2017.
On the other side of this battle was Clover Hill who finished second for the second year in a row. Last year they lost to Glen Allen 53-57. Your hat has to go off to both teams as their averages and splits would put them on the podium seemingly in every classification.
