Underclassmen Led by Tafe Steal The Show In Class 4

Most years the state meet is the culmination of years of hard work and when the seniors show everyone how it is done. That was not the case this year in the Class 4 races with the entire top five on the girls side and first and second on the boys side all returning.

Class 4 Results & Coverage

Leading the way on the girls' side was VA #1 runner and junior Elaina Pierce who stormed away from the field early and never looked back. On the boys' side it was way more entertaining with lead changes and athletes making a name for themselves.

Upfront and ultimately taking home the title was sophomore Michael Tafe of Loudoun County who seemingly was not tired at all after taking home his first state title. Right behind him was freshman Jonathan Grimm of Jamestown in second and a few steps behind them in fifth was Blacksburg's freshman Rivers Matthews

Out of the finishers, the entire top five on the girls side and seven of the top 10 on the boys side will return again next year.

Class 4 was not the only classification with underclassmen stealing the show as Class 5 underclassmen went 1-2 in the boys race and 1-3 in the girls race.
