Lambert, 4x100m squad lead VCU to sixth-place at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Led by sophomore Davion Lambert's (Richmond, Va./Varina) first-place, personal best mark in the triple jump, and the 4x100m team's first-place finish, the Virginia Commonwealth men's track and field team earned sixth out of 18 teams at the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational, Saturday, at the University of Virginia.

Lambert's leap of 48-6 in the triple jump was better than 12 other competitors and beat out his previous personal record by just a little more than an inch. The 4x100m team earned its fastest time of the season with a mark of 41.55. The two first-place marks gave the team 20 of its' 38.50 points.

Also leading the way for the Rams was Lukasz Matusiewicz (Warsaw, Poland), pictured. The sophomore scored the fastest time in the Colonial Athletic Association and came just a fifth of a second short of qualifying for the NCAA Regionals in the 800m with his time 1:50.60, good enough for fourth place.

Sophomore James Frierson (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) competed in the 400m for the first time during the outdoor campaign. His third-place finish of 47.84 was also the fastest in the CAA this season.

Sophomore Derek Altizer (Chesterfield, Va./Thomas Dale) earned a personal best for the second consecutive meet in the 100m with his eight-place finish of 10.83.

James Abraham (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) also earned a personal record at the meet. The senior earned a mark of 47-9.75 in the shot put, giving him ninth place.

Next up for VCU will be the Colonial Athletic Association Track and Field Championships, April 22-23, at George Mason University.
