UMW Women\'s Track & Field Wins CAC Championship; Men Place Second

TOWSON, MD - The University of Mary Washington women\'s track & field team won the Capital Athletic Conference championship on Saturday, thanks to two school records, and nine first place finishes. The Eagle men took second place in their competition with one school record and four first place finishes.

For the women, Jane Thies finished first in the triple jump (34\'3\") and the high jump (5\'), and placed second in the long jump (17\'), finishing second to teammate Carley Hambley, who won with a leap of 17\'2\". Carissa Culbreath won the discus with a CAc record throw of 125\'8\", with teammate Megan Linn also breaking the old school record with a throw of 124\'8\" and taking second. Sam Workman won the 100 meters (13.35), Christy Falcone won the steeplechase (12:14), and Amy Kingsbury won the pole vault (10\'). The women\'s 4x100 and 4x400 relays were also victorious.

For the men, James Eberhardt finished first in the shot put (45\') and the discus (157\'9\"). Matt Kirk was first in the 5000 meters (15:38), and Jake Rod set a new school record in placing first in the steeplechase, at 9:30.

Both teams will compete in the Liberty Invitational on May 5.
