Inge Jorgensen won her fourth ACC javelin title on Thursday
Virginia javelin thrower Inge Jorgensen won her fourth ACC title in the javelin tonight (April 21), leading the Cavaliers to the opening-day lead in the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships which are being held in Tallahassee, Fla. Jorgensen and teammate Annie Bobiak went 1-2 in the event, and Cheryl Carr took seventh in the 10K, giving the Cavaliers 20 points, putting them four ahead of UNC. The Virginia men are in sixth with 13 points.
Jorgensen became only the second woman in ACC history to win four titles in the javelin, joining former UVa All-American Julia Solo. Jorgensen, who won the title with a throw of 52.63m (172\' 8\") was the only athlete to hit the 50-meter mark. Bobiak, who was the ACC Champion in the event in 2003, uncorked a personal best 150\' 11\" on her final throw of the competition to leap from fifth to second. Cheryl Carr ran a personal best 35:38.07 in the 10K to take seventh, a minute faster than her best time ever in the event.
The Cavalier men had three scorers in the 10K, more than any other school. Ryan Foster led the Hoos with a second-place time of 29:59.74. Andy Filachek came in sixth with a time of 30:14.20, while teammate Andrew Dumm was right behind him in seventh with his 30:22.28. No other men\'s team had more than one finisher in the top eight. After the first day of the decathlon, Thomas Codevilla sits in fourth place overall. He had the second-best high jump of the day with a team-leading 1.95m (6\' 3.5\").
