Virginia high school track and field athletes posted several personal records across multiple meets during the week of May 4.
Meriam Cherkaoui (Walsingham Academy) won the long jump at the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools Championship with a leap of 18-8.25, improving from her previous best of 14-1. The sophomore's mark set a school record and ranks #17 in Virginia and #3 among state sophomores. Cherkaoui also ran 18.27 in the 100m hurdles, down from 18.37.
Camden Wiley (Brooke Point) placed second in the 110m hurdles at the Massaponax District Meet in 16.01, dropping from his previous personal record of 17.54. The sophomore ranks #135 in Virginia and #18 among state sophomores in the event. Wiley also ran 41.46 in the 300m hurdles, improving from 43.58.
Josiah Coleman (Kings Fork) finished second in the 800 meters at the Varina High School Invitational in 1:59.87, breaking two minutes for the first time after running 2:08.34 in April. The senior ranks #126 in Virginia and #70 among state seniors.
Flora Zakaria (Hermitage) cleared 5-6 to win the high jump at the Varina High School Invitational, improving from 4-10 in April. The freshman ranks #6 in Virginia and #1 among state freshmen.
Nyasia Johnson (Sussex Central) ran 59.80 to place second in the 400 meters at the Windsor Home Meet #1, dropping from 1:10.74. The sophomore ranks #133 in Virginia and #31 among state sophomores.
Brody Richards (Freedom) threw 149-8 to win the discus at the Lightridge Weekday Meet, improving from 132-4 in April. The junior ranks #33 in Virginia and #12 among state juniors.
Hamidu Bayon (Osbourn Park) won the triple jump at the Indy Cedar Run Weekday Meet with a leap of 47-9, improving from 45-3. The senior's mark set a school record and ranks #3 in Virginia and #3 among state seniors.
