After a one year hiatus as a result of the unfortunate sniper situation of last fall, the Glory Days Grill cross country meet is back in the saddle again and looks this year to have the promise of being the largest and best ever.

The Northern Region Track and Field Championships are scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start today at Lake Braddock and hopefully will be able to follow the regular scenario of being a two day meet which concludes tomorrow, as long as the persistent weather pattern currently pestering the area does not rain too much on the parade of events.

Form does not always hold true in track and field but certainly did this past Saturday as the Eastern Region put forth a dominating performance at the AAA championships at the GMU Fieldhouse. In a couple of early season meets in December, the CNU Showcase in Newport News and the Metro Run and Walk Invitational in Prince George's MD, teams from the Tidewater area sent an early season message with particularly strong showings.

Even though there has been a venue change and a date change in the schedule, the winter holiday season can now once again be considered complete with another installment of the Friends of Indoor Track (F.I.T.) Relays. This year\'s edition, which has been moved from its George Mason University site of the past seven years due to a scheduling conflict, has still found an excellent home at the Prince George\'s County Sports and Learning Complex with its superb field event facilities and mighty fine 200 meter track.

The Northern Region Championships will be held this Thursday at Burke Lake Park on their 2.98 mile course with the boys race to begin at 3:30 p.m. and the girls race to follow at 4:15 p.m. The top four teams and top fifteen individuals in both races will automatically qualify for the AAA state championships at the Great Meadow course in The Plains on Saturday, November 16. While the air seems to be cleared as to the Thomas Jefferson boys squad being installed as the overwhelming favorite in their race, everything certainly seems to be up in the air.
