The Grassfield and Western Branch boys waged war with one another for two days at Boo Williams Sportsplex for the 2013 Eastern Region indoor track & field team championship. At the conclusion of the meet, Grassfield came out the team champions with 84 points and Western Branch fell just short with 81 points in second place. It is almost certain that nothing is settled between these two teams and the rivalry will be renewed next weekend at the VHSL Group AAA State Championships as both teams should factor in the team title discussion along with top teams from the other three regions.
The Western Branch girls looked far from experiencing a "down" year for their program as the Lady Bruins won the last Eastern Region girls indoor track & field team title by 40 points as they were able to amass a total of 80 points over the two day meet held at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton this past weekend. Milan Parks and their hurdle crew led the charge for Western Branch to maintain their regional supremacy.
A 500 meter state runner-up last year and regional runner-up last weekend to Oscar Smith's Michael Cherry, Western Branch senior Byron Robinson is tired of settling for second and ready to experience his first state championship.
