Loudoun Valley sophomore Andrew Hunter has quickly become the state's best underclassmen distance running talent this fall and a runner to keep on the radar for the next few years to see if he develops to become a elite competitor on the national stage. Hunter was the second highest finisher from the state of Virginia in a loaded Oatlands Invitational this past weekend cross the finish line ahead many of the state's best runners in a new 5K personal best time of 15:45, which is the 16th fastest time among all 10th graders in the United States this cross country season.

Due to tomorrow afternoon's forecast for heavy rain and thunderstorms, the meet management for the Oatlands Invitational has adjusted the race schedule slightly. Races will now begin 25 minutes apart and the awards ceremonies will happen after each race at the sound tent. There will not be a large awards ceremony at the conclusion of the races.

The top four ranked runners for the Group 5A boys will all be present at the Oatlands Invitational this weekend with VA #1 ranked runner and 2013 Group AAA 3200 indoor state champ Louis Colson of Thomas Edison, 15:07 5K runner Mackenzie Haight of George C. Marshall, two-time Central Region cross country champion Nathaniel Hall of Atlee, and 2013 Group AAA 1000 indoor state champ Ryan Thomas of Albemarle. The winner of the 2013 Oatlands Invite will be the victor of a stacked field when adding in top competition from Maryland including state champion Chase Weaverling of Poolesville as well as the top ranked 6A runners in the Chantilly duo of Ryan McGorty and Dakota Lange along with Oakton's Jack Stoney. The 5A quartet of Colson, Haight, Hall, and Thomas is arguably the most talented returnining classification at the top among state title contenders. The 2013 Oatlands Cross Country Invitational is currently up to 91 schools and over 3,600 athletes entered as of 5 PM on September 16th. A reminder to all coaches that the entry deadline is today (September 16th) at midnight! Make sure that you have all your athletes who will be competing this weekend entered (some coaches still fail to realize that you actually have to enter each runner from your team roster and click save/done editing when entering cross country meets online and not just simply register your team).
