Track is a contact sport in the 4x200 relay Plenty of controversy in the girls 4x200's at the Eastern Region Meet with legs lined up in wrong lanes to receive baton from incoming legs, contact, falls, and disqualifications. (Photo by Brandon Miles) The Western Branch boys could have won prettier and more dominant, but they will take it as any regional team championship in the state's toughest track region at the Eastern Region Meet is what it is in a team championship against some of the state's best. Meanwhile, the Bethel girls continued their streak of dominance in the region under the helm of Coach Eddie Williams at CNU's Freeman Center on Monday with their fourth straight region indoor team championship. Kali Watkins of Menchville and Domique Jordan of Woodside had the top individual performances of the day with US top five times.
The favored Western Branch boys and Bethel girls came out on top at Monday's Eastern Region Indoor Track & Field Championships as it was the fourth straight indoor team title for the Bethel girls. Meanwhile, a classic 55 meter hurdle battle was witnessed between Menchville's Kali Watkins (pictured left) and Hampton's Tierra Brown in the finals of the event as both hurdlers dipped under eight seconds in the same race with Watkins coming with the regional title in a US #5 clocking of 7.95 and Brown in second at a US #7 clocking of 7.99. Two Virginian girls under eight seconds in the same hurdle race is quite a historically rare occurence!
