Sean Holston got all he could handle in a showdown with one of North Carolina's top sprinters in T.J. Graham from Wakefield as Holston posted a 100 PR and state best clocking of 10.59, but Graham was the better man on Saturday in the 100 with a 10.56 win. (Photo by John Herzog) While all are eyes were on Sean Holston and anxious to see him smoke a fast 200 meter time, it was Brooke Point's April Sinkler with two meet records and sweeping the girls' jumping events who was really the star of the 2007 Dogwood Track Classic. Sinkler broke a meet record in the long jump, which was set by a former Northwest Region great in Sheena Johnson. An athlete in which Sinkler admires as a role model to follow after and now has surpassed in Dogwood Track Classic history as the only athlete to possess three meet records.

Both Brown (100H/300H) and Claiborne (100m/200m) are looking to take two events each on the track, while Sinkler could possibly win all three jumping events (HJ, LJ, TJ) at Dogwood. Sinkler is the returning Dogwood champion in the high jump and holds a share of the meet record at 5'8".
The 2007 Dogwood Track Classic will be hosted Saturday, April 28th at the University of Virginia’s Lannigan Field in Charlottesville. This year’s edition will feature a total of 94 schools and over 2000 athletes as the largest meet within the state of Virginia. Within the large number of athletes competing, it is not hard to miss the great number of Virginia’s finest high school athletes who will be at Dogwood this weekend. MileStat.com will be on-site with coverage this weekend. Girls preview to be posted later today. One of the main events will be the opportunity to watch and see if Robert E. Lee senior Sean Holston (pictured left by John Herzog) can break 21 seconds in the 200 meter dash with a legal wind on Saturday as Dogwood meet management has assured there will be wind gauges. The fastest Virginian prep at 200 meters with a legal wind was Curtis Riddick in 1980 at 20.80. Holston ran an impressive 21.07 clocking last weekend after doubling back from a US #3 effort of 46.55 in the 400 meter dash. Holston's time was the fastest recorded in the country this year, but without a wind reading for his race at the Allen Johnson Invite, it could not stand officially as a US #1 performance. He'll look to make it official this weekend at Dogwood.

Thanks to a video submission by a site user, everyone can see why you should always run through the line in every race including the 3200 meter run. Despite a 63 second lap at the 2003 Dogwood Track Classic 3200 meter, MileStat.com\'s own Brandon Miles is passed right before the line by West Springfield\'s Steve Tobin. Enjoy!
