Chapin senior Luke Lovelace outran two national competitors in the 3200-meter run, his first indoor competition, with a new St. Christopher's Fieldhouse record of nine minutes, 14.64 seconds, a U.S. no. 4, at the St. Christopher's Mid-Atlantic Track Clash in Richmond, Va. earlier today.
Updated performance list for the St. Christopher's Mid-Atlantic Track Clash to be held Saturday, February 2nd at St. Christopher's School in Richmond, VA. There are several events which should produce some exciting races and fast times including the boys 500 meter dash with three athletes entered ranked 7th, 10th, and 17th in the country with times of 1:06. Grassfield's Curtis Campbell (pictured right by Ted Plunkett) leads the way with his 1:06.20 best, while William Byrd's Drew Hall at 1:06.34 and Episcopal's Allante Keels at 1:06.57 are not too far behind him. The 3200 will feature three Foot Locker finalists with the Midlothian pair of Jason Witt and Michael Hammond as well as two-time finalist Luke Lovelace of South Carolina. Also from the Carolinas, TJ Graham of Wakefield (NC) brings his US #2 300 meter clocking of 34.43 at UNC last weekend to St. Chris as Great Bridge's Taylor Sykes will attempt to give him a challenge in the event.
Who can forget the great anchor leg by Manchester's Anthony Chesson at the 2007 Clash to help the Lancers to come from behind on Bethel for a US #2 flat track time of 3:22.44. There were a total of four US #2 flat track performances in the first annual event last February.
