Region I Indoor T&F Championships Preview MileSplit Staff Feb 17, 2009

Mearns vs. Gunnerson in the 1600 Photos by Ted Plunkett The Bay Rivers District champions from Jamestown will be the overwhelming favorites to win the team title at the Region I Indoor Championships on Thursday in Hampton. The Eagles will rely on their deep distance crew, which won a state cross country this past fall. However, Jamestown is not a strong track team due to their distance runners alone as they possess some of the region and Group AA's best in the sprints and field events. Nick Durante is one of Group AA's best in the pole vault, while Greg Farrell is an All-State caliber athlete in the sprints at 300 meters. Courtland expects to follow up their Battlefield District title with a succesful defense of their regional title from a year ago. The Lott sisters, Jaime and Jaquonna, with the help of their teammates are capable of pushing Courtland's team score over 100 points and out of reach of any challenging squad in Region I. The Lott sisters will score in multiple events with the best chances of individual regional titles for Jaime in the 500 meter dash (1:20.48) and for Jaquonna in the triple jump (35'0") as top seeds in those events.
