Regional week begins on Tuesday with the Region II Championships being held at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville and ends on Saturday with the Central Region Championships being held at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville. on Wednesday, two regional meets were held with the Region III Championships and Region B Championships. The Hidden Valley girls did it again and knocked off a top ranked Blacksburg squad at the Region IV Meet for the third consecutive year. Of course in the past two upsets, Blacksburg has been able to bounce back and win the Group AA state title the next week. We will see if history repeats itself next week at Great Meadow as two of the state's best teams face off once again.
Ted Richardson of James River (15:34) and the Midlothian boys (78 pts) win regional titles.
Erica Dobbs of Deep Run (18:23) and the Midlothian girls (59 pts) win regional titles.
The Midlothian girls have won the last four Central Region cross country titles to coincide with their four straight Group AAA state titles. Do not expect the regional streak to discontinue this weekend for the Lady Trojans, but Lee-Davis freshmen Bonny Turnage (pictured left by John Herzog) might attempt to spoil an individual three-peat for Midlothian senior Kathleen Lautzenheiser. However, a highly anticipated individual match-up between Grant Pollock of Mills Godwin and Ted Richardson of James River might be the top story coming into the 2009 Central Region Cross Country Championships. Pollock is also attempting to not only become Godwin's first boys individual champion in regional meet history but also lead his squad to their first Central Region team title ever.
