States week is about more than just the teams and superstars in our sport. It is also about the stars who are trying to win that first state title.

It is truly never too early to begin to examine rankings. MileStat took that addage to heart and is previewing what we found is the likely outcome for next year's Outdoor season. Previewed here is both the Boys and Girls Group 2A.

Radford, VA - Maggie Walker, Brunswick, Auburn, and George Wythe all put together great teams and performances to walk away with first ever 1A & 2A State Championships. Complete recap of each competition including many of the winners can be read here.
After all the action it is time to look back at the team title races and see how things played out for these teams that left their venues with the first every state championship in each of their divisions.
Unlike any other classification, this will actually be the first time both of these classifications have a state meet. In indoors this meet was combined due to so few of the schools having indoor teams. But now that we are in the outdoor season, the participation numbers and competitor numbers are way up and ready to produce some impressive times and performances.
With the state meet now behind us it is time to not only look forward towards the outdoor season but also the 2014-15 indoor season. Here are some of the top returning athletes in the state and predictions for who will take home the team titles next year.

A list of Group 1A-2A state indoor automatic qualifiers as of December 30th. Brunswick Senior sophomore Bria Stith is still at Brunswick for at least this year, much to the dismay of her competition in Group 1A & 2A indoors. Daughter of former UVA basketball standout and NBA player Bryant Stith, her father is starting his first year as an assistant on the Old Dominion University men's basketball coaching staff in Norfolk, but the rest of the family including Bria is still residing in their hometown of Lawrenceville at Brunswick High for the rest of this school year. Stith opened up her season nearly two weeks ago at Fork Union with several impressive state auto qualifying performances for Group 1A-2A in the 55 meter hurdles (8.90), long jump (16'4.50") and triple jump (37'2.75").

Virtual meet rankings for Group AA boys and all four regions (Region I, Region II, Region III, Region IV) scoring all events through 8 places based off performances in the MileStat.com database as of May 1st. The Brunswick Senior boys currently have the top ranked team in Group AA in part due to two versatile athletes in DaJuan Seward and Donmanique Hardy, who both star in the hurdles and jumps.
Louisa County with Javanique Burruss and E.C. Glass with Zakiya Bateman (pictured by Gabe Lamartina) have their teams sharing the #1 team ranking for Group AA as of April 19th according to MileStat.com's power team rankings (based on performances in the site's database).
The Group AA boys' race for the team title was everything that you could ask for. It all came down to the most exciting race of a track meet in the final event of every meet in 4x400 meter relay. Blacksburg, Lafayette, and Brunswick were all in contention for first place and were loading up strong relays to go for it. Blacksburg held the lead going into the last race of the day with 51 points, while Lafayette (48 pts) and Brunswick (48) were tied for second place.
Now that 2011 Indoor State Meets are complete and the rest of the postseason is winding down, it's time to look forward to next season. Check out the state meet returners in each event for 2012 for Class A & Class B with the exception of the relays, and see what teams are favored to win it all.
