A Weekday Meet For The Ages
Most teams that go on to win a state team title do not race their top runners in a weekday meet, so call head coach Drew Spicer unconventional. On 10-5, at Pole Green Park the Deep Run Wildcats took to the course with a fully loaded squad in a regular weekday meet against former Colonial District teams.
Though this is quite different, it was warranted due to the horrible weather luck the team had received. They had planned numerous other meets but unfortunately they just kept getting cancelled. This meant having to race his squad here to get them ready for the big meets to come.
It was also quite boring for some athletes considering they raced four times this year and all four times were at Pole Green... but it worked.
With perfect weather conditions and some great competition the Wildcats took to the Hill Course. They ran well as a team and saw their entire top seven finish inside the top 20. It was a sign that they were about to do something big.
Their number one runner, Bashir Mosavel-Lo ran a fantastic 15:43 with Cannon third in 16:00 and Zachary Levet fourth in 16:01.
After the meet we took a screenshot of the team rankings as we knew they were about to change big time. Below you can see they ranked 5th prior to those results being integrated into the database. After that, they jumped all the way to second.
