Real Deal Classic Live Results, Highlights, & Coverage

MileStat.com's condolences and prayers go out to the Western Branch track family after learning today at the meet that 2013 grad Darius Dixon tragicially died in a car accident this weekend. Dixon had qualified for his first state meet individually in the 400 meter dash last spring as a senior which he broke 50 seconds for the first time and just recently competed in his first collegiate meet at Liberty University.  More on story

Western Branch's Ebony White wins 500, runs solid 300, and anchors team to 4x400 win

Day 2 Girls Highlights:

  • Ebony White had a busy but stellar day 2 of races at Boo Williams for Western Branch. The senior White won the 500 meter dash in a new meet record time of 1:18.00, which Western Branch took 5 of the top 7 places in the event. White then clocked a new PR in the 300 with a 5th place effort of 41.82 and closed the meet out anchoring the Western Branch girls to victory in the 4x400 with a state leading time of 4:03.
  • Phoebus junior Carolyn Brown won a total of 3 events this weekend with her third win coming in an exciting race between herself and Patrick Henry junior Tiffany Harris. Brown got off to a great start, but felt Brown closing in the last 100 meters and still was able to hold onto a 40.78 win.
  • Norfolk Academy freshmen Julia Lambert was a double winner in the distance races. She was able to pull away from former Bay Rivers District runners Miriam Buscher of Warhill and Adriana Hooks of Lafayette in the 1600 meter run with a meet record time of 5:21.47. Lambert came back later in the day with a late kick in the race to win the 1000 meter run in a time of 3:14.06. Atlee's Katie Gardner finished well for second place (3:15).
  • The Elizabeton Seton girls from Maryland swept the top 3 places in the long jump with the triple jump winner from Friday in Javonne Antoine winning her second event of the meet with a mark of 16'8" in the long jump. Antoine was followed by teammates Morgan Spruill (2nd, 16'7") and Autumn Robinson (3rd, 16'4.50") with the next best jumps in the competition.

Atlee's Nathaniel Hall can now finall take break after XC following achieving two 5A state auto's in 1600 (4:22) and 3200 (9:35)

Day 2 Boys Highlights:

  • Atlee's Nathaniel Hall just last week was running his first sub 15:20 5K at Foot Locker South to end his cross country season on a high note. He started his indoor season and can now take a little break by automatically qualifying for the 5A State Indoor Meet in hitting the qualifying times with his winning times of 4:22.15 in the 1600 and and 9:35.30 in the 3200. Lafayette's Jason Menzies (4:24) in the 1600 and Lee-Davis' Grayson Reid (9:50.45) were able to press Hall enough through the first half or third in the races onto the qualifying times.
  • Western Branch's Tyson Robinson was running 5000 meters in cross country just a few weeks ago, but now is running a tenth of that distance and running it well as shown by clocking a new PR and meet record time of 1:06.76 at the Real Deal Classic.
  • One of the more thrilling races of the meet came in the fast section of the boys 1000 with several lead changes. Paul Adam (3rd, 2:37) of Lee-Davis started out pressing the pace, while the Lomong brothers of Fork Union in Alex (2nd, 2:36) and Peter (4th, 2:38) also made moves in the final laps. Warhill's Christopher Short made the final move and came away with the victory and state auto in 3A with his winning time of 2:35.66.
  • Highland Springs junior Marcus Taylor has always been a great short sprinter, especially the 55 indoors, but showed on Saturday that he is improving his endurance and can be just as strong in the longer sprint races with a 35.21 personal best clocking in taking first in the 300 meter dash. Taylor had ran a great leg earlier on the 4x200 meter relay with Highland Springs winning the fast section of the event in 1:34.49.
  • Western Branch boys nearly stole two relay wins from the slow section as they posted the fastest overall time in the 4x200 from section 5 of 6 in a time of 1:33.91 and their 3:34.96 from section 2 of 6 in the 4x400 had stood as the best time for the next three races until the I.C. Norcom boys edged them in the fast section with a 3:33.44 victory.
  • Runner-up on Friday in the 55 meter dash finals with a 6.49 clocking, Churchland's Chris Walker came back on Saturday to have the top performance in the boys' long jump as the only one over 20 feet with his leap of 20'1.50".

Irielle Little rocks a 8.11 PR in 55 hurdles to lead Western Branch top 4 finals sweep!

Fluvanna pole vaulter Hannah Meador over 12'3" in first meet of season!

Day 1 Girls Highlights:

  • Western Branch girls are still incredibly deep in hurdles as the Lady Bruins went 1-2-3-4 in 55 hurdles finals on Friday at Boo Williams. The top 4 hurdles sweep for the Western Branch girls saw with times of 8.11 for event winner Irielle Little Little, 8.16 for runner-up Funlayo Oluwole, 8.30 for Milan Parks in 3rd place, and 8.60 for Faith Ross in fourth place.
  • Carolyn Brown of Phoebus was a double winner at day 1 of the Real Deal Classic with 5'2" clearance in high jump and 7.08 clocking in 55 dash. Brown has run under 7 seconds several times before in the 55 meter dash and the 7.08 opener is a good indictator that we will see several sub 7 races from her in the coming season.
  • Fluvanna County pole vaulter Hannah Meador is off to great start to her indoor season with a 12'3" clearance. Meador is the state's top returning pole vaulter and looks to challenge 13 feet in her senior year.
  • Patrick Henry (Ashland) senior Shania Williams broke her own meet record from two years ago in the shot put with a mark of 40'2.25".
  • Big mark from a non-Virginian in the girls triple jump by Elizabeth Seton's Javonne Antoine with a leap of 39'2.50" to establish a new meet record by nearly three feet. Patrick Henry's Crishna Hooker was the runner-up with a mark of 35'3.50".

One of state's top returning hurdlers, Charles Graham of Phoebus looks sharp with 7.54 clocking!

Marcus Taylor of Highland Springs and Chris Walker of Churchland already rolling under 6.50 early!

Day 1 Boys Highlights:

  • Last year's Group AAA state indoor 55 meter hurdles runner-up Charles Graham of Phoebus opened with a swift 7.54 performance in boys 55 hurdles finals. Graham is a state title favorite in the event and potential All-American this winter.
  • Already seeing sub 6.50's at the start of the season in boys 55 dash in Virginia with Highland Springs junior Marcus Taylor rolling into the finals with a 6.45 victory followed by Churchland's Chris Walker with a 6.49 runner-up clocking.
  • A remarkable four inch improvement was achieved by Bethel's Nehemiah Lipforrd in the high jump with his clearance of 6'5.
  • Lafayette and Western Branch both had two great anchor legs in Derek Holdsworth and Tyson Robinson, but Holdsworth got the lead and never relinquished it with the Lafayette boys as the 8:11 winners over Western Branch in second place at 8:13 to end the first day's action on the track.
  • Atlee's Bryce Simpson was the last competitor not only in the pole vault, but in the building competing with the boys' pole vault finishing late on Friday and Simpson taking the win with a new all-time best height of 13'6".
