NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Torrential downpours of rain all day Friday flooded and left the Newport News Park course looking like a war zone for Saturday's CNU Invitational with mud and puddles throughout the 5K course. Despite course conditions which, slowed times down by a rough estimate of 45 seconds, there were still some impressive races throughout the day. The Thomas Jefferson boys and girls dominated the "blue" divisions as the boys' squad was lead by a 1-2 finish from Christo Landry (16:36) and Chris Mocko (16:46), while the girls were paced by race winner Jen Dolson (21:01). Other outstanding individual performances included Grafton senior Daniel Swale's come-from-behind, photo finish win (17:02) over Good Counsel's (MD) Drew Abernathy (17:02). Gloucester freshmen Emily Webb had the top time of the day as she was victorious in the "silver" race in 20:10. Amy Rolley of Bruton (20:33) and Danielle Moore of Walsingham Academy (20:42) duked it out in an exciting "white" girls' race with Rolley prevailing in the end.
