VIRGINIA MEET OF CHAMPIONS! Set for Saturday, March 8th at Boo Williams Sportsplex!

MileStat.com is excited to make the announcement of a brand new post-season event coming together for Virginia high school indoor track & field athletes, coaches, teams, parents, and fans with the start of the first ever Virginia Meet of Champions to be held on Saturday, March 8th at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton! With the Virginia High School League going to a six classification format this school year (from the previous 3 class system), the state championships this year for track & field will not being seeing as many of the state's very best and elite athletes competing head-to-head at season's end, but rather will see them competing in separate races, events, and venues. As many of us know, the greater the competition tends to lead to the greater the performance and results.

In a partnership of MileStat.com, Atlantic Coasting Timing Systems, and the staff at the Boo Williams Sportsplex, the Virginia Meet of Champions expects to gather the top tier level of competition within the state and bring in state champions from 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A, 1A/2A, and the private schools all together in one meet at one venue on one date. We will be actively recruiting and promoting the event at meets throughout the season and online through MileStat.com and social media. We believe this event will be one not to miss and leave great regrets for any who skip out on it!

It is important to note that this event is not sponsored or sanctioned by the VHSL (rather to be sanctioned by the USATF instead), but the same post-season rules (and work-arounds) will apply for high school athletes and teams being allowed to compete in such events as Foot Locker South and Nike Cross Southeast regionals in cross country as well as individuals and relays competing in the New Balance Indoor & Outdoor Nationals among other post-season events following the school sanctioned track seasons. Individual athletes will be competing under their hometown affiliations rather than school affiliations and school relays will be competing under club name affiliations as will be seen at the New Balance Indoor Nationals one week later after the Virginia Meet of Champions at the Armory in New York City.

We have annually found our ways to compete at those post-season events, its time for us to find our ways to all come together as one as a state and make the Virginia Meet of Champions a success to showcase how great and deep our state is within the sport of high school track & field! Many other states enjoy Meet of Champions and All-Class State Meets to complete their seasons, Virginia deserves one as well! Show that it deserves one by supporting, competing, and attending the Virginia Meet of Champions on March 8th! Let's make it happen!

1st annual Virginia High School Indoor Track & Field
MEET OF CHAMPIONS

Saturday, March 8th, 2014
Boo Williams Sportsplex - Hampton, VA
Hosted by MileStat.com & Atlantic Coast Timing

Purpose of Meet: With the new 6 classification system, the competition level at our state championships is now watered down and we will not get the opportunity to see as many of the state's best facing off in their final meets of the season. This meet aims to bring the best of Virginia together at season's end when all athletes and relays are in peak performance to find out who is truly the champions of all champions in the state!

Eligibility Requirements: Must be an eligible and competing track & field athlete at a Virginia high school during the 2013-2014 school year.

Sanctioning Rules: The meet will be sanctioned and have liability insurance through the USATF. Athletes are not required to have USATF membership. This is not a VHSL or NFHS sanctioned/sponsored event. All athletes in individual events will be competing as unattached individuals with their hometowns as designations. All relays will be competing under Track Club name affiliations from their hometowns as designations. No different than post-season rules that have applied and still apply for HS teams & athletes who continue their seasons competing at indoor nationals, outdoor nationals, Foot Locker South, and NXN Southeast annually.

How To Qualify (3 options) for the Virginia Meet of Champions:
1. Win a 2014 indoor state title in your event (automatic qualifier)
2. Achieve the automatic qualifying standard during a meet in the 2013-2014 indoor season
3. Be among the top 24 submitted entries with verified season best entries at the entry deadlines (Exception: Top 12 for relays, pole vault, and high jump)
Events Offered: All of the same events offered in the Virginia high school championship season including the 55 meter dash, 300 meter dash, 500 meter dash, 1000 meter run, 1600 meter run, 3200 meter run, 4x200 meter relay, 4x400 meter relay, 4x800 meter relay, pole vault, high jump, long jump, triple jump, and shot put.

Online Entry Registration: All entries must be done online via MileStat.com at the meet page below:
https://va.milesplit.com/meets/158976-virginia-meet-of-champions. Entry instructions can be found on the website. Coaches may enter a "club" team of athletes or individuals and parents on their behalf can also enter themselves as individuals as well.

Entry Deadline: All athletes and relays must enter online on MileStat.com by Monday, March 3rd at 6 PM. No other form of entry is accepted. ONLINE ONLY!

Entry Fee: An entry fee of $10 per individual event and $40 per relay event. Entry fees go to covering cost of facility rental, awards, timing, and officials. All entries must be paid online by the entry deadline of Monday, March 3rd at 6 PM in order to confirm and declare entry into meet. Any entries that are not accepted will be refunded fully after final entries have been declared and finalized.

Accepted Entries: A list of accepted entries for the Virginia Meet of Champions will be posted by midnight on Monday, March 3rd. Accepted entries must notify us of any scratches from any events by Tuesday, March 4th at 6 PM to allow us time to notify the next athlete or relay alternate of their acceptance into the meet.

Stand-By Alternate Entrants: We will list and note the two alternate entrants in the meet as the 25th & 26th highest seeds on the accepted performance list for the individual events (except PV & HJ) and the 13th & 14th highest seeds in the pole vault and high jump. In the event that an athlete or two ahead of them is a last scratch in the week from the meet or on race-day, those alternates would be notified and have the opportunity to be added late to the event to compete. Understand that is by no means a guarantee that will occur and a competition opportunity will open up, but at least providing a window and process of opportunity.
