Drew finally opened up his season and he didn't start running until halfway into his race this past weekend. Despite the east start, he blazed the harder part of this hilly course to run a VA #1 and Oatlands Meet Record 15:12. He is still the guy to beat in Virginia.
2
Last year Gannon took a while to show us how good he was but this season he is flipping the script and coming on strong early in the season. He opened with a 14:48 (3 Mile) at Fork Union to take the VA #1 spot.
3
Lomogda hung with Drew Hunter better then anyone else did at Oatlands and opened his season very strongly running VA #2 for 5K in his opener. He is definitely looking like the 6A favorite this season.
4
Though he rolled his ankle at Oatlands and we didn't get to see him against Drew and others, he is still one of the best in the state and already has the Monroe Parker and Great Meadow Invite titles under his belt.
5
VA
(3 Mile) Micah gets very few races to run in and makes the most of the ones he can get into. Two weeks ago he put on the jets and ran a VA #2 14:52 3 Mile finishing just behind FL Finalist Gannon Willcutts.
6
(3 Mile) Also running a blazing time on the Fork Union 3 Mile course was Stutzman who is enjoying not having a target on his back with Willcutts on his team. Though if he keeps running like this, both will have targets on their back. The real question though is can they both break 15 this season and join a very select group of teams to have that honor ever?
7
Though Adidas is a very fast course, Clikeman's time is fast regardless of the course. He is a two-time defending VISAA State Champ and finally looks to be back healthy.
8
Trevor is the hopeful leader of Auburn as they seek that elusive 1A Team Title. If he keeps running like this they will win the team title and he will run away with the individual title.
9
Konrad has come onto the scene very strong this season running very tough early in the season. He makes our top ten for his big victory at the Al Dorner Newport News Invite.
10
Closing out out top 10 is Ryan Drew of Kellam who is one of the top 5A runners this year and has run consistently at the front of all the races he has been in this season thus far.
11
Right on the cusp of our top 10 and for breaking 16 is Velleleth who is not only fighting for individual stardom but also a team crown as he is Thomas Jefferson's top runner in the 5A classification.
12
Running 16:02 on the "Hill Course" at Great Meadow will move you way up the rankings. He has a couple flatter and hopefully faster races ahead and could be a big mover by next week.
13
Karl is the only runner to make this list from the Knights Crossing Invitational this year. He is also one of the best runners in 3A this year and comes on our list as the #3 3A runner. He is also the highest ranked sophomore on this list.
14
The West Springfield senior has started his season strong by winning his race down in NC. He will face off with some tough competition and should get pushed pretty hard. Running this well, this early, should be a good sign for this 6A North hopeful champ.
15
(3 Mile) Also vying for the 6A North title this year both as an individual and team will be Colin Schaefer. He ran a strong 15:23 on the historic Burke Lake Park course but is going to have to run much faster by regionals.
16
(3 Mile) Also staking his claim on the 3 Mile courses was Catlett who put on a good showing at Fork Union two weeks ago.
17
Harrison is in the gauntlet of 5A but now that he has given up competitive wrestling he could be a real contender in XC now that all his focus is on it.
18
Ryan enters the season and continues through three weeks as the 2A runner to beat. He placed highly a year ago but is coming for the crown and trophy this year
19
Also hailing from the 3A classification is Aaron Lowe. He worked very hard at the running camps this year and could have a huge season ahead of him.
20
Also from TJ, he has run very well to start the season and also help position TJ as the top team in the state early.
21
Will helps Loudoun Valley join just TJ and Western Albemarle as the only team will multiple athletes on this list. He could be Loudoun Valley's most important runner this season.
22
The former leader of the class of 2018 has some work ahead of him but he is entering the season on a strong note and no doubt will improve throughout the season.
23
Tyler has run well to start the season and as one of the higher ranking 4A runners.
24
Kyle is the second highest ranked VISAA athlete and the highest ranked Division 1 VISAA athlete.
25
After a nice meet up in PA, Jackson headed back to VA and put together a great race on the difficult and humid Oatlands Course. Expect Jackson to move up on this list.
