Heritage (Newport News) High School freshman Madison Whyte put on a show at the VHSL Class 4 State Championships on Tuesday with her 300m dash.
Her historic performance, a US No. 5 mark of 37.81 seconds, ranks second all-time for freshmen in the entire United States. Whyte's time also ranks third in the state of Virginia all-time behind Bethel graduate's Francena McCorory's 36.96 and Mills Godwin graduate's Britton Wilson's 37.53 run last year.
Whyte was also the state runner-up in the 55m dash with a time of 7.18. She closed out her meet anchoring the Heritage 4x400m relay in 58.30 seconds to help her quartet win the event.
