Richmond Track & Field Garners Academic Honors

Spider men's team third nationally with team GPA of 3.26

RICHMOND, VA -– The United States Track Coaches Association honored the Richmond men's track and field team by naming it a top academic squad for the 2004 season, officials announced Monday.

The Spider's accumulated an overall team GPA of 3.26 in 2004 which ranked third nationally. Richmond was the only Virginia institution and only Atlantic-10 Conference School with an overall grade point average above the 3.00 criteria.

Former Spider Tim Caramore (East Greenbush, N.Y.) was also recognized by USTCA as a member of its All-Academic Team. Caramore, who ranked No. 10 in the nation with an overall GPA of 3.86 following the 2004 school year, qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in the 3000M Steeplechase and he was the Atlantic 10 Conference Champion in the 3000M at the indoor championships.

The Richmond women's track and field squad was also listed as an honoree placing No. 42 in the nation with an overall team GPA of 3.07. The squad was the top Virginia institution and only Atlantic 10 Conference School recognized.
